Hope Solo Twitter Fight with Brandi Chastain Might Just Be for Fame

Hope Solo Lying Bare for ESPN Body Issue During “Dancing with the Stars”

Hope Solo started a Twitter fight with former soccer player Brandi Chastain over comments she made Saturday about the U.S. Olympic women’s soccer team.

The feud springing from what seems like minor criticism may be Solo trying to stand out from the 10,500 athletes competing in the 2012 Olympics to increase her fame and promote her new book and ad endorsement career, similar to her “Dancing with the Stars” stint and photoshoot without clothes in ESPN magazine’s body issue.

She also made un-lady-like comments to the Daily Mail about cheating on her boyfriend in an affair with an unrevealed celebrity at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

On Saturday, after the Olympics’ opening ceremony’s viewership died down, team USA’s soccer win over Colombia 3-0 qualified them for the quarterfinals. Afterwards, the girls were touring Great Britain for fun, and Solo’s hot temper decided to stir up some controversy.

“Its 2 bad we cant have commentators who better represents the team&knows [gic] more about the game @brandichastian,” Solo tweeted in poor English about the NBC Olympics sports analyst. “Lay off commentating about defending and gking [goal keeping] until you get more educated @brandichastain the game has changed from a decade ago.”

Then she added two more tweets bashing Chastain and praising British Olympics commentator Arlo White.

“Its important 2 our fans 2 enjoy the spirit of the olympics [gic]. Its not possible when sum1 [sic] on air is saying that a player is the worst defender!

“I feel bad 4 our fans that have 2 push mute, especially bc @arlowwhite is fantastic. @brandichastain should be helping 2 grow the sport.”

The public is not exactly sure what Brandi Chastain said to get Hope Solo mad.

Solo tweeted immediately after the game, which leads people to believe she heard Chastain’s comments secondhand.

An analysis of the game by Deadspin found just one comment by the pundit that could be called “critical” of a defender.

Chastain made the comment when Rachel Buehler lost a ball in the 19th minute of the game’s first half.

“Rachel Buehler with the giveaway there,” Chastain said. “As a defender your responsibilities are defend, win the ball, and then keep possession, and that’s something Rachel Buehler needs to improve on during this tournament.”

Chastain is most famous for ripping her shirt off exposing a bra when she made a goal and the United States team won the World Cup when it was held at the Rose Bowl several years ago.

Solo may also generally dislike Chastain because the sports analyst was critical of Solo’s failed drug test earlier this month.

“It’s news that they don’t need,” Chastain told Larry Brown Sports after Solo tested positive for a diuretic she said was unknowingly in her premenstrual medication. “As athletes, we have to be more careful. Whether you’ve been told one time something is OK, it’s always good to double- and triple- and quadruple-check. Something as innocuous as a cold medication to clear up the sniffles could derail not only you as an individual, but perhaps a whole team.

“I was disappointed that it came up because, for as careful as I think everybody is, I think we could all go without some medication for a short amount of time and not suffer too greatly.”

This fight is not the first for Solo. She also famously blasted a coach’s decision in the 2007 World Cup to bench her against Brazil in favor of veteran Briana Scurry. Her backlash alienated her from teammates for awhile.

Buehler would have probably preferred everyone would forget Chastain’s comment about a bad play she made in the game that was not heavily watched.

Luckily for Solo and the U.S. women’s soccer team, she is not going to be given a penalty or punishment for her fight.

However, Solo has a desire to be famous and stand out from her teammates.

Likely, this Twitter fight will not be the last time everyone hears from Hope Solo.

Solar (R)evolution

Does the sun have the power to transform humankind?

In Solar (R)evolution, world-renowned German biophysicist Dieter Broers makes a compelling case, pointing to a wealth of scientific evidence that shows a remarkable correlation between increases in solar activity and advances in our creative, mental, and spiritual abilities.

We are in the midst of a dramatic rise in solar disturbances, which have the capability of disrupting the Earth’s geomagnetic field and, as a result, our global ecology. Broers, however, sees this not as an impending apocalypse but as the dawn of a new era.

Drawing on research from a variety of disciplines, he shows how erupting solar activity carries the potential to boost our brain capacity and expand our minds in ways we never imagined possible. Abilities now seen as extraordinary or supernatural—telepathy, extrasensory perception, and off-the-charts intelligence quotients—may soon become ordinary and natural and could very well help us solve the mounting global crises we are facing.

Humankind is going through an evolutionary leap, says Broers, and the process has already begun.
