Pepper Sprayed, Beaten Pregnant Occupy Protester Miscarries Baby – Video

Pregnant Jennifer Fox Loaded into Ambulance after Pepper Sprayed and Beaten by Police

Last Tuesday a three-months-pregnant Occupy Seattle protestor named Jennifer Fox marched to Westlake Park and was pepper sprayed, and, she says, kicked and shoved by police. Fox now miscarried her child and claims that doctors told her Seattle cops are to blame.

“We marched to Westlake. We took up the four-way stop and the cops started moving in, when the cops moved in no one could get out,” the 19-year-old woman told Seattle Weekly.

“I got close to the cops and said ‘I’m pregnant! I’m pregnant! I need to get out of here!’ They wouldn’t let me get out. [One officer] kicked me in the stomach, [another officer] threw his bike into my stomach. Then [both officers] teamed up and pepper sprayed me in the face.”

“Later my guy who did the ultrasound said everything was fine … Until yesterday when I went back.”

According to Seattle Weekly, Fox’s account has not been verified, and is only her account.

Fox, who says she is homeless and lives at the Occupy camp at Seattle Central Community College, says she does not have any medical documents to provide right now in regards to the listed cause of her miscarriage, but she says that her caseworker is going to give her paperwork that will confirm her story this week.

Harborview Medical Center spokesperson Mary Beth Haggerty could not legally confirm or deny that the woman was treated when she says she was.

The industrial-strength pepper spraying of Fox and 84-year-old activist Dorli Rainey sparked outrage internationally, but with little done yet to stop further police violence.

United Methodist Pastor Rich Lang was another protestor who stood out to the press out of the dozens of people who were pepper sprayed.

News of Fox’s miscarriage was first reported by Ian Finkenbinder on his blog One Angry Queer.

A video claiming to show the moments after Fox was assaulted and shows woman being loaded into an ambulance was posted on YouTube.

Fox told Seattle Weekly that she went to Harborview shortly after the incident and was given an ultrasound that confirmed that her baby was fine. Then on Sunday, she says she developed “terrible cramps” and called an ambulance.

“The took me to back to Harborview, they did an ultrasound, and they said there was no heartbeat,” Fox said before explaining the reason the doctors gave her. “They said it was the pepper spray, the bike incident and the kick.”

Seattle police refused to comment on Fox’s account when contacted by the publication Monday evening. Only days beforehand Mayor Mike McGinn publicly apologized for the incident after a P-I photo of Rainey’s milk-and-pepper-spray-dripping face went global.

Fox says that she’s getting legal advice from fellow Occupiers who have access to lawyers and will decide whether to file a lawsuit against the cops.
